URL Shortener: Creating Links, Custom Slugs, and Analytics
ElasticDomain includes a URL shortener with click analytics. It is designed for use cases where you need trackable short links — marketing campaigns, email footers, QR codes, or sharing long API URLs.
Credit Costs
| Action | Credits |
|---|---|
| Create short link (random slug) | 1 credit |
| Create short link (custom slug) | 2 credits |
| View click analytics | 1 credit |
Creating a Short Link
- Go to Tools → URL Shortener or find the Shortener in your dashboard.
- Paste the long URL you want to shorten.
- Optionally enter a custom slug (e.g., "summer-sale" → yourshort.domain/summer-sale).
- Click Create.
The short link is created immediately and copied to your clipboard.
Custom Slugs
A custom slug lets you create branded, memorable short links instead of random character strings.
Examples:
- yourshort.domain/pricing instead of yourshort.domain/x7k2m
- yourshort.domain/signup instead of yourshort.domain/9bpq3
Custom slugs cost 2 credits (vs 1 credit for auto-generated). Slugs must be:
- Unique (not already in use in your workspace)
- URL-safe characters only (letters, numbers, hyphens)
- Between 3 and 50 characters
Click Analytics
For every short link, ElasticDomain tracks:
- Total clicks — cumulative click count
- Clicks over time — chart of daily click volume
- Referrer — where clicks came from (direct, search, social, email)
- Country — geographic distribution of clicks
- Device type — desktop vs mobile vs tablet
Viewing analytics costs 1 credit per view.
Managing Links
All short links are listed in the URL Shortener section with:
- Original URL
- Short URL
- Creation date
- Total click count
- Last clicked timestamp
You can edit the destination URL of an existing link (the slug stays the same) or delete links you no longer need.
Use Cases
Marketing campaigns: Create campaign-specific short links so you can track which channel drives the most traffic.
Email signatures: Use a short link in email signatures rather than a long URL — cleaner and trackable.
QR codes: Short links work perfectly in QR codes. Generate the link, then use any QR generator with the short URL.
Sharing API documentation: Long documentation URLs become a clean short link you can share in onboarding emails.
Workspace Scoping
Short links are workspace-scoped. Links created in one workspace are not visible in another. Credit charges also come from the workspace where the link is created.
