Adding and Organizing Domains
Add single domains or import in bulk via CSV. Organize with domain types, folders, tags, and workspaces.
Adding and Organizing Domains
ElasticDomain supports monitoring any publicly accessible domain - you don't need to own it or have DNS access to it. This guide covers adding domains individually, importing in bulk, and keeping your portfolio organized.
Adding a Single Domain
- Click Add Domain (top right of the dashboard).
- Enter the domain name. Use the bare domain format:
example.com, nothttps://www.example.com. - Select a domain type (explained below).
- Optionally set a folder, tags, and check interval.
- Click Add Domain.
The first scan starts immediately.
Domain Types
Domain types categorize what you're doing with each domain:
| Type | Use For |
|---|---|
| Owned | Domains you registered yourself |
| Competitor | Domains belonging to competitors |
| Watchlist | Domains you're monitoring but don't own - for-sale, expiring, or brand-defensive |
| Client | Domains you manage on behalf of clients |
| Investment | Domain portfolio assets held for resale or development |
Domain type affects how domains are grouped in reports and which alert presets are offered when you add the domain.
Check Intervals
Each domain can be configured to scan on a different schedule:
| Interval | Best For |
|---|---|
| Every 6 hours | Critical production domains |
| Every 24 hours | Standard monitoring (default) |
| Weekly | Low-priority watchlist domains |
| Manual only | Domains you want to scan on demand |
You can change the interval at any time from the domain detail page → Settings tab.
Folders
Folders group domains visually in the dashboard. Good examples:
- Production - live domains in active use
- Staging - development and testing domains
- Clients / [Client Name] - per-client groupings for agencies
- Watchlist - domains you're watching but don't control
- Expired - domains that have lapsed (for tracking purposes)
Create a folder by typing a new name in the folder field when adding or editing a domain.
Tags
Tags are free-form labels. Unlike folders (one folder per domain), a domain can have multiple tags. Useful tag patterns:
- Technology:
wordpress,cloudflare,shopify - Status:
critical,needs-renewal,expiring-soon - Client or project:
client-acme,project-rebrand
Filter the dashboard by tag to see all domains sharing a characteristic.
Bulk Import via CSV
To add many domains at once:
- Go to Dashboard → Import.
- Download the CSV template.
- Fill in the columns:
domain,type,folder,tags,checkInterval. - Upload the file.
- Review the preview (shows any invalid rows).
- Click Import All.
The import creates a background job. You'll see progress in the dashboard as domains are added and their initial scans complete.
CSV column reference:
| Column | Required | Values |
|---|---|---|
| domain | Yes | e.g. example.com |
| type | No | OWNED, COMPETITOR, WATCHLIST, CLIENT, INVESTMENT |
| folder | No | Any text |
| tags | No | Comma-separated, e.g. wordpress,critical |
| checkInterval | No | 6h, 24h, 7d, manual |
Workspaces
If you manage domains for multiple clients or brands, workspaces let you keep them completely separate - each with its own domain list, alert rules, and team members.
Switch workspaces from the workspace selector in the sidebar. Each workspace has its own credit balance.
Deleting a Domain
Open the domain detail page → Settings → Delete Domain. Deletion removes all scan history and alert rules for that domain. This cannot be undone.
