The Domain Watchlist Feature
The watchlist is a dedicated space for monitoring domains you are considering buying, tracking for acquisition, or watching as defensive brand monitoring.
The Domain Watchlist Feature
The watchlist is a dedicated view and domain type for monitoring domains you do not own but want to watch closely. It is separate from your owned portfolio, keeping your dashboard organized.
What the Watchlist Is For
Domain acquisition targets — You are interested in buying a domain that is not yet for sale. Add it to the watchlist to be alerted when it expires or when its WHOIS changes (ownership transfer, registrar change).
Expiring domains you want to acquire — Monitor domains in their expiry countdown. When they enter redemption period or drop, you will know immediately.
Defensive brand monitoring — A competitor or squatter registered a domain similar to yours. Watch it to see if they develop it, if it becomes an active phishing site, or if it expires and becomes acquirable.
Competitor domains — Track competitor WHOIS, DNS, and SSL changes to monitor their infrastructure. Use the COMPETITOR domain type for active competitors and WATCHLIST for domains you are passively tracking.
Adding a Domain to the Watchlist
When adding a domain, select WATCHLIST as the domain type. Alternatively you can use INVESTMENT for domains you have acquired for resale.
Watchlist domains get the same full monitoring as owned domains — WHOIS, DNS, SSL, security, uptime — just organized separately in the UI.
Watchlist View
From the dashboard sidebar, click Watchlist to see only WATCHLIST-type domains. This view shows:
- Days until expiry for each domain
- Current registrar
- Health and risk scores
- Recent changes detected
Setting Up Watchlist Alerts
The most useful alert for watchlist domains:
Domain expiry alert — trigger at 90 days, 60 days, and 30 days. For acquisition targets, you want plenty of notice before the expiry window.
WHOIS change alert — fires if ownership or registrar changes. A registrar change on a domain you are watching could mean it was just transferred to a new owner — relevant for acquisition timing.
Nameserver change alert — indicates the domain is being actively used or migrated. A previously parked domain suddenly getting nameserver changes may be going live.
Domain Watchlist vs Domain Tracker Dashboard
The main dashboard shows all domain types. The Watchlist view filters to only WATCHLIST-type domains. You can switch between these views freely — there is no data separation, just a display filter.
Tips
- For domains you are actively trying to acquire, add a note in the domain metadata with your max price or acquisition timeline
- Set check interval to weekly for watchlist domains to conserve credits — daily scans are rarely necessary for passive monitoring
- When a watchlist domain expires and you successfully acquire it, update its type from WATCHLIST to OWNED
