How to Set Up RSS Feed Monitoring in Brand Intelligence
RSS feed monitoring continuously scans configured feeds for brand mentions — a reliable way to track industry publications and news sites that cover your space.
How to Set Up RSS Feed Monitoring in Brand Intelligence
RSS feed monitoring scans publication feeds for new articles containing your brand keywords. It is the most reliable way to monitor specific publications — major tech blogs, industry news sites, or partner publications — without depending on search engine indexing delays.
Why RSS Monitoring
Web search ingestion is broad but has lag — a new article may take hours or days to appear in search results. RSS feeds are near-real-time: most publications update their RSS feed within minutes of publishing.
For publications that matter to your brand — trade press, tech news, analyst firms — RSS monitoring gives you the fastest possible alert when your brand is mentioned.
Adding RSS Feeds
- Open your Brand Intelligence profile.
- Navigate to Sources → RSS Feeds.
- Click Add Feed.
- Paste the RSS feed URL of the publication (e.g., https://techcrunch.com/feed/).
- Optionally give it a label (e.g., "TechCrunch").
- Click Save.
The feed is immediately polled for existing articles containing your brand keywords. New articles will be checked as they are published.
Finding RSS Feed URLs
Most publications have an RSS feed, though it is not always prominently linked:
- Try appending /feed or /rss to the site URL (e.g., techblog.com/feed)
- Look for the RSS icon in the site header or footer
- Check the page source for link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml"
How Feed Ingestion Works
ElasticDomain polls each configured RSS feed periodically. When a new item appears:
- The article title and description are checked against your brand keywords.
- If a match is found, the article is added to your mention feed.
- Sentiment analysis runs on the article content.
- An alert fires if you have configured a mention alert.
Each matched article costs 1 credit to ingest.
Setting Up Alerts for RSS Mentions
- Brand Intelligence → [Profile] → Alerts.
- Create alert: New Brand Mention.
- Optionally filter to trigger only for RSS source mentions (vs all web sources).
- Choose notification channel (email, Slack, etc.).
Managing Feeds
View all configured feeds in the Sources section:
- Pause a feed without deleting it (stops polling temporarily)
- View last poll timestamp and article count
- Remove feeds that are no longer relevant
Good Sources to Monitor
Depending on your industry, consider adding feeds from:
- Industry news publications in your sector
- Major tech news sites if you are in tech (TechCrunch, The Verge, Wired)
- Analyst firm blogs (Gartner, Forrester)
- Competitor blogs (to catch their announcements)
- Reddit subreddit RSS feeds for community mentions
